Get Rid Of White Background On Black T-Shirt

A white background on a black
t-shirt is not cool.
Oops. Has this ever happened to you? You're creating a product to sell on Zazzle. You want to put an image on a dark or black t-shirt. You find the perfect picture and upload it and add it to the t-shirt. Then it appears on the t-shirt on your computer screen.

Yikes! It has a horrible looking white background on it. You really, really want that picture on a black t-shirt because it looks so
cool, but what can you do?

Never fear. You can make the white background transparent. How? You can make the background of pictures transparent easily using image editing software like Paint.net, or Gimp. I use Paint.net net much more than Gimp so I'll tell you how to get rid of a white background on a black t-shirt using it.

I did a video tutorial showing how to do it step by step. Of course you can watch the video. It's at the end of this blog post if you're interested. However, here are the steps in a nut shell.

Look ma! No white background.
Open the image in Paint.net. Click on the Magic Wand tool.
Click on the white background. The background will be selected and shaded light blue. Press the Delete key on your computer keyboard. You will see the back ground change into a gray checkerboard pattern. That means it has been changed to transparent. Save the image as a .PNG file. That's it. Now upload your transparent back-grounded image and apply it to your black t-shirt. Voila! Nice.

Yup. It's easy breezy. I do need to mention that you may need to make some adjustments to the tolerance level on the magic wand tool to fine tune the job. Also, the eraser tool comes in handy for cleaning up scraps. I go over this in my Zazzle video tutorial in more detail. So check it out if you have any trouble.
